| Do you consider one of your birds as your best friend? I know that it sounds kind of corny to think of Einstein as my dearest friend, but I do. Okay, I admit that I'm the worst for anthropomorphism. I watch my birds, and see them as my own personal soap opera. But I guess anthropomorphizing my guys isn't such a bad thing, I mean, in class I've learned f all the great benefits of owning a pet. Scientific studies have been done, and researchers have noted reliable drops in blood pressure and other measures of arousal or anxiety when people are talking to or stroking their companion animals. As you guys probably already know, I suffer from a slew of Anxiety disorders. I for one can vouch for the emotional healing qualities of keeping a pet. I've had a lot of problems with people. I have a lot of trust issues. But there's something about animals. I perceive "unconditional love". It may not be real, but if it helps, then why question it. Einstein is such an amazing little bird. I feel that we have some level of communication. I can see when he's not in a good mood, and there are days when I'm just feeling like crap, and he acts like a little gentleman, comforting me with his "kisses" and his "I love you"s. I'm not a really social person, and am very much an introvert. But my birds are always there. They sing for me, and are the best companions. They don't judge me. Einstein would be perfectly happy to sit under my chin for the entire day. People are always asking me why I don't have a boyfriend. I always answer with "Einstein is all the man I need" | |

| I see the birds more like my children. I'm responsible for their care and daily wellbeing and all of the things they need. And they behave like children that will never.ever.grow.up. | |

| I don't see my birds as children, its actually a little pet peeve when people go all like, 'just lovin your mommy!!!' or 'be good to mom!' with their birds. I see them as birds, my friends, but I'm like their big sis (unrelated). | |

lol. I talk to my bird like they're people. I don't do the whole baby-talk thing to real babies, I'm not about to do it to my birds. And I can't ever remember referring to myself as "mom" in regards to the birds, but I do view them more like children than friends/siblings as I'm they're sole caretaker.

| Zada is my buddy. I agree with everything you said Zaza! Pets are very therapeutic, for me its especially dogs and horses. I treat Zada like a child because she acts like a child haha. And since I have had her since she was still weaning she seems to see me as the mom character haha. But I treat her like my equal, but I make the rules haha. She is my little orange pumpkin baby<3 | |

| I agree with you guys ^, mine do act like children and technically the relationship is more of a child-caretaker relationship. I don't do the 'who's your mommy' talk though. And I baby-talk to my birds, but never with real babies- yuck!!! | |

| Well, I don't think of them as either friends or children exactly, they are what they are, which is an important part of my life. | |

| Yeah, I'm kinda with Deb. I don't think of them as friends because I have friends and it isn't the same, but I treat them like a friend at times. I don't think of them as children because I have children and it isn't the same there either, but I treat them like children at times too. I care about them terribly, and like Deb before me said, they're a very important part of my life. They are what they are, and because there's no better label to put on them, I'll just have to say, they're my birds. Don't mess with them. | |

Little jerk bird today I read: "I see Zaza as a bird too!". I took it as a compliment When I talk to them, I say "Mommy" and "babies". But really, I see them more as my companions. I much prefer the company of my birds than people. Off topic, my neighbor is playing the kazoo. I can hear it. Strange. Back on topic. I feel such a strong connection to Einstein. Stronger than I did with other pets. I think it's because birds are monogamous in nature, and cockatiel mates usually never leave each other. He thinks I'm his mate (okay, I assume that's what he thinks). I'm sure he thinks of me when I am not with him, and I certainly see him get excited whenever I walk into the bird room.

| Hey, important off-topic thing! Recently, I've been noticing HOW MUCH I love Apple. Like, I love him so much that I want to be attached to him all day and sniff him sorta thing. I just want Apple to be happy because I love him so much... and that he would be happier with a female 'tiel.. | |
