| Glad to meet up with other parrot lovers. I have two rescues, a DYH Amazon named Lefty, and a female Eclectus named Ollie.
Lefty is about 20 years old and has been with me for 2 years. Ollie is about 6 years old and has been with me for about 2 months. Lefty is completely socialized and easily passed from hand-to-hand among anyone who will ask him to step up.
Ollie is another story, I was told she had a preference for females, but the only part of me she likes is my arm. She has given me several big bites, leaving 5" bruises. Things are getting better, she lets me pet her through the rungs of her cage, and today she let me feed her some oatmeal off a spoon.
They each had their own vocabulary, and little by little they are teaching each other their words. Lefty has a siren sound, Ollie has an airhorn sound.....can't wait til they both learn both!!!

| Welcome Lefty & Ollie, It's GREAT when they pick up each other's sounds  I remember walking into a customer's separate bird building (a garage built specifically for their pet birds - it was beautiful!), and an "alarm" went off - it was their Male Eclectus letting them know we were "intruding" VERY loud  | |

| Rescue parrots have a very special place with me I have quite a few and think that respect and remembering that they had no choice goes a long way. Many of them havee left bruises if not a lot worse but after a time most all of them have found a middle ground here and it has been better for all of us. I am currently sitting in the living/office space with 7 rehomed Amazons and only the 2 maales are not in "cruise" mode due to flight issues. (cruise mode is open cage) Welcome Lefty and Ollie... Ollie is the one that has my fondness at this time sounds like she?? is more than a little unsure, give it a little time and I am sure since you cared enough to take them in they will repay your kindness. | |
