Yup, several people I know have gotten stitches from that same action. Not fun.

I love having small birds. Even if they were to bite, no stitches needed.

I tried to kiss Scooter once when he was still mad at me. Lips bleed a lot and they are sensitive, but at least they heal quickly!
It's interesting that this has become such a standard behavior with parrots. It is clearly risky, and probably ought to be recommended against -- yet the very element of trust makes it compelling.

I said OUCH for you Dusty, good luck with a healing! I only have bitten hands, but I hope I'll listen to your advice in the future and don't give him my lips...

I've luckily never been bitten anywhere on the face. I've always been paranoid so I've never let a parrot I don't trust near my face. I tell everyone who get a bird from me - don't let it near your face unless/until you have a relationship and the bird's trustworthy.
I guess it's a chick thing - chicks don't like scarred faces.

rainbow bit my cheek hard and quick once and left a indent for a minute or two but nothing serious. She's usually gentlest with my face but my dad shook her enemy, the pill bottle, and she bit the nearest thing without thinking. Any beak bigger than a gcc's, I wouldn't trust around my face.

I'd wanted to make this video for a while,to show all those non amazon people who heard about hormonal and bitey Zons are,i wanted to show the other side of how unbelievably cuddly and sweet some are.Dusty's post came up and i already had the song picked out so i told Josie to grab the camera .If i'd waited to later in the day she would have been much more cuddly but we just did the spur of the moment thing and this is what we got. Believe it or not she's usually 10X sweeter than this, My girl Jake and "Always Have to Steal My Kisses From You" BY Ben Harper.
