| Yesterday I was given the sad news that my Aunt, the legend, Rita Miljo, mother of baboons, had passed away in a tragic fire. I've been completely devastated and have been looking her up online. Overwhelmed with the amount of articles written about her, I am honored to have been related to such an incredible person. Known as Mama Zimfene (mother of baboons), this is someone which stood up for what she believed in and did something with her life, dedicating it to an animal most people see as fermin in South Africa. This is just to show what can be accomplished in your life when you have a true passion for an animal and you do anything possible to protect them. If you have the time, please read these articles, I found it fascinating and have learned a lot. She is the Dian Fossey of South Africa, an amazing human being and will be missed greatly. http://petegrimm.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/glimpse-at-life-of-living-legend-rita.html?spref=fbhttp://www.myfoxtampabay.com/story/19136621/south-african-baboon-rescuer-dies-in-fire#.UBQaydxcSbh.facebook | |

| Wow, sorry for your loss. I'm always impressed with people who dedicate their life to something worth while. So you going to "fill her shoes"? | |

| Thanks guys. Unfortunately I can't make it in time for the memorial this week. Too short notice with flights and all which is a pity. However I'll try go in December with my dad to her centre and see what she did in person which will be cool:) if I had the time and money I'd be the one in the family opening a parrot centre hehehe. My sister deals with the whales and sea creatures, my aunt the baboons, so why not:) But we will see what the future holds:)

| Oh wow - how terrible!
From the articles I found, it sounds like she led a full life, and was definitely an asset to her conservation strategy. | |
